The end is nigh

Finally I have my last final tomorrow. I cant wait to be done, and go home!
Hopefully I can get some decent training in, as well as stuff my face with good food. Although, I must try not to sit around too much, as I feel like I have been doing too much of that with studying, and feel like a fat, lazy, blob.

I dont know how reliable I will be about posting while I am at home. The internet connection is less than desirable.

Here is an awesome photo my roomie created with photoshop:

Well not such a big week. My legs were strangly sore Wed/Thurs, so I missed a bike. It was a little hard to get motivated a few days with all the studying.

Updateroonie

Yes, that is not a real word. I realized yesterday when my roommate and I had a meaningful conversation about hot, sugary mini donuts, that studying makes you crazy. Only fellow studiers can understand the gibberish the mind produces at exam time.

So, I have done pretty well for workouts this week so far. Mon, I had swim practice. Tues, tri practice was about a 55min rev, and then we ran for about 35 min. We went to the park, with all the Christmas lights up, so that was very festive. I had to go home and drink hot chocolate after that, I was so filled with holiday cheer.
On Wed, my legs were outrageously sore, although I don't really know why. I went swimming in the morning, and had the entire pool to myself, which was nice. I did a recovery/technique spinervals video after studying all day. I was hoping this would loosen up my legs.
It did not work, as I was still really sore yesterday. I had a final in the afternoon, and then went for a 45min run after that. It was nice and sunny out, so I wore my cool sunglasses. They were awesome, and didn't fog up. I then went to the gym, and stretched and did core for 30 min, and then did a weight workout. I really wasn't up for biking, so chose to do this instead.
My legs are still sore today. I have no idea what the heck I did to them. I was considering biking today, but I don't think I will. I will just go to swim practice tonight.

I am getting quite excited to go home for xmas. I am leaving soon, on Mon, but it seems really far away. Probably because I still have 2 finals to write. I also have to pack. And do some final present preparations/purchasing.
Plus, I should probably go to the grocery store today, and buy some fruit, so I don't get scurvy in the next 3 days.

Summer Photos

I was looking for some race results online, as I am compiling them into a spreadsheet for future reference.
This is mostly for comparison purposes, and simplicity of having them all in one place. It is also because I am a huge nerd!

Anyways, on the website for the Prince George Triathlon, they had some pictures posted, which I promptly stole. I did the Olympic race this past summer, and the year before, did the Sprint distance as my very first race.
The most memorable thing about the day was that it was fricken cold! The water was freezing, and I wore a jacket for the bike. I finally warmed up a bit for the run. Oh, and I had a sore foot during the race, which I later realized was from a giant bruise on the bottom of my foot I got from stepping on rocks in the swim.

Overall it was a fun race to do, and to see how far I came from the year before. It was such a huge accomplishment finishing the sprint race as my first tri, and then to be back a year later, doing double the distance, quite easily, was really cool.
This was also the first race I did after finishing my first Half Ironman earlier in the month, so it felt wierd/cool/good to be racing again.

Ok, here are the 'stolen' photos:

I look a little angry here, perhaps because the water was choppy and chilly!

Done and DONE!

Weekly Totals

For the week of Dec 4- 10:

Swim: 3
Bike: 3.88
Run: 2.25
Total: 9.08 hours
Total with pilates/core/strength/stretching: 11.9 hours

I havent been doing any self massage the last few weeks, so I should be doing that more. Also, I am thinking my run volume is a bit low, so may consider doing a little run focus over x-mas, and perhaps modifying my schedule next term to plan for 4 weekly runs.

The music is back!

I couldnt live without my ipod. It was pretty much the worst 2 days of my life while it was broken. Yes, I only lasted 2 days, before I went and bought a new one!

I got a 4gb, silver nano. It is wayyy smaller than the mini was. I remember when I got my mini, it was soo tiny. Now, with this thing, I can barely even hold onto it its so small. I also bought the nike+ sport kit. I havent set it up yet, as I need to attach it to my shoes in some ingenious way. I read that a bit of velcro works well. That will be a project for over xmas break. I will also need to find an awesome case for it, as it's current home is in a brightly coloured (unworn) sock.

Soo, the sweet sound of music fills my ears once more. The sound quality is way better, which is either a function of having new headphones, or the ipod itself. I am telling myself it is the ipod.

Thurs and Fri I spent studying, with some workout breaks in there too. We had a tri practice Thurs, where we biked for about 50 min, and then the run was about 35. I then did a nice stretching/ab workout session, as I was feeling a leeetle tense.
Fri, was a cram jam fest! I stayed at home to study all day, and then went to swim practice for an hour.

My exam went well on Sat. I was a little grumpy about having to write the thing, on a Sat morn, the first day of exams. But, the material was fine, and it is good to have one test done. I didnt even try to study the rest of the day.
I went for an hour run immediately after the test. It always feels nice to do this, as you can just get out any tension, and relax after the intense test writitng. Plus I got to listen to my sweet new ipod!
I must say however, that I am getting tired of all the snow on the paths and sidewalks. It is soo hard to run in, as I get no traction, and feel generally tired. At least I am going to blame that on the snow, and not that I am slow and out of shape!
I hit the gym after my run, to stretch and do core, and then some weights.

I spent the rest of Sat watching Ironman Hawaii on tv, and then getting ready for/going to the Tri Club Xmas Potluck.
Watching the race coverage made me want to go and race. I was a little peeved that they really only focus on a few people, and that they didnt really show Lisa Bentley but once briefly on the run, even though she came in 3rd, and was battling for 2nd.
The potluck was quite nice. I brought a store bought cake/some fruit as I was way too lazy to cook. We also did a gift exchange, which was fun.

On today's agenda, is studying, a trainer session, and perhaps a pedicure! I decided to skip the Tri club brick workout this morning. I usually study better in the morning so I will take advantage of that, and do a bike later in the day.

Oh, and I weighed myself again, and I have actually lost some weight. I am a little surprised, as I have stayed the same weight for the last few years. I think the yoga/pilates/weight training is what did it. I dont feel underweight or anything yet, and have been trying to eat well. It is hopefully a good thing; less butt to haul up hills!

Last Day of Class

Well. Classes for fall term are done. Now all I have to do is study for, and write 4 finals!

In terms of the training I have done so far this week, Mon I had swim practice for an hour.
Tues, I had my final pilates class of the term, and then tri practice. It is warm enough to run outside finally. We did about 40 min, and ran by the Legislature building, which had all the Christmas lights on, which was nice. After that, the rev was about 50 min, and included some climbing, and a running sprint around the track in the arena at school in the middle of the workout.
Today, I swam for an hour in the morning, and then did about 40 min on the trainer after school to a Spinervals video.

I will probably have to juggle things around a bit with studying/test writing in terms of workouts. It is always so different being in study mode, and I find it is hard to fit things in.

Ironman Hawaii is on tv this Sat. I have a final in the morning, and then I will run and possibly try to fit in a gym session. Then I will take the atfernoon off to watch the coverage. I am quite looking foreward to it actually.
Sat night, tri club is having a potluck/gift exchange. I think I will try and go, although I dont know if I will have too much time. I have no idea what sort of $10 gift to get/do not want to cook anything or go to the grocery store. I think I will just have to see how the next 2 days of studying go.

In a hilarious note, I was reading another blog which had a link to crazy santa photos. I laughed out loud when I saw this one:

Urghhh!

My iPod is on the Fritz!!

It keeps freezing. Today, it froze, and then wouldnt turn off, until it drained from a fully charged battery to nothing. I plugged it into my computer to see if that would fix it, but it wouldnt recognize it, and then my computer froze!

ahhhhhhh!!

This cannot be a good sign!

I dont know what I will do without it!

Lazy

Well, not really, but I feel a bit lazy, as I completely skipped doing any sort of workout yesterday.

Sat, I decided to run inside on the treadmill, so I went to the gym and ran for just over an hour. I then did weights. My quads felt extremely sore after I ran. Kind of like I had ran for 2 hours instead of only 1. I dont know what that was all about, but it was strange.
I also weighed myself afterwards. It was much lower than I expected. I may have been a bit dehydrated, but that cant be all of it. I will try and weigh myself again in the next few days for confimation.

Sat afternoon, I prepared some snacks for the Birthday party we had for my roomate Sat night. The party was tons of fun.

Unfortunately, the guns came out again!

Sun, I pretty much just recovered from the festivities.

I am definately living the life of a University student lately, with the weekend hangovers. It is a good thing it is only December. Next term, I will have to be much more vigilent with my Sun workouts!

Classes are done on Wed, my first final is on Sat. Bleh.
I reallly have to get my nose in the books this week!

Weekly Totals

For the week of Nov 27-Dec 3:

Swim: 2.8
Bike: 2.4
Run: 2.2
Total: 7.4 hours
Total with yoga/pilates/weights/core: 11 hours

Oops. Its a tad low this week, especially biking. See follow up post for explanation.

Yipppee

It was finally warm enough to run outside yesterday!

I only managed about 35min, and it was still quite cold when in the wind. But, it was doable. It felt really great to finally get outside again. I was the only one at tri practice who wanted to run outside. I guess that means I am the toughest!
We also revved for about 50 min at practice.

Unfortunately, it seems to be colder today. I am still undecided about running outside tomorrow. It is supposed to be -20 in the morning, which is right on the verge of runable temperature. I think I will wait until the morning and check. However, the idea of a warm treadmill run looks pretty good to me at this point.

After tri on Thurs, I went to the grocery store. I bought some chocolate milk, and was totally looking foreward to it. Well, I got home, sat down for a refreshing glass and .... nothing.

There was a plastic piece inside the carton. A plastic sound device.

They are having one of those, 'If your milk MOOOoos, you win' contests. But the carton didnt mooo. It was defective. But, I won nonetheless.

My prize? 'A skin for my electronic device'. Why would I want that??
I was actually quite mad. Because there was no actual milk in the carton. Just a sound device and a sack of saline.
SALINE!
I WANT MY MILK.

Part of my winnings also included a 'coupon for 1L of chocolate milk'. AKA, the milk I ALREADY PAID FOR!!!!

Obviously, winning didnt really do much for me, except make me angry!
